The Park Savoy's ballroom is walled in floor-to-ceiling windows. Beautiful at five o'clock, and a genuine lighting problem by nine — here's how we plan for the change.
The Grand Ballroom at The Park Savoy is defined by floor-to-ceiling windows framing the gardens. It is the reason couples book it, and it's also the reason lighting here needs planning that most rooms don't.
At five o'clock that room is full of daylight and any uplighting you've installed is invisible. By nine those windows are black mirrors reflecting everything back into the room. The same lighting design has to work in both conditions, which means it gets built in scenes that change as the night does — subtle and warm while there's still light outside, fully committed once there isn't.
Get that wrong and you either waste the first three hours of your lighting budget or you blast a bright room at sunset. Get it right and the transition is one of the nicer moments of the evening.
The original structure dates to 1870, and there's a 19th-century Carrara marble fireplace and handcrafted detail throughout. Rooms like this reward lighting that picks out what's already there — the plasterwork, the fireplace, the depth of the window frames.
It also means load-in is done carefully. Historic houses have doorways, floors and surfaces that predate every piece of equipment we own, and none of it is worth a mark on a 155-year-old room.
Yes, more than anything else in the room. Uplighting is invisible in daylight and doubles in reflection after dark. We build the design in scenes so it works across both.
Yes. Outdoor ceremony sound is a separate build from the ballroom system and we bring both, with an operator on the ceremony.
It seats up to 350 and the grounds take up to 400. That comfortably supports a full lighting and effects build — we scale it to the room rather than overfilling it.
