Let's be straight
about corporate nights

A company party is not a wedding with different music. The room is full of people who did not choose to be there together, half of them will leave by nine, and the part that decides whether it worked is the twenty minutes in the middle when somebody has to run the awards without losing the room.

That middle part is the job. Someone welcomes people in. Someone gets the chief executive to the microphone and gets it back. Someone reads the service awards without mangling a name, runs the raffle, covers the gap when the slides will not load, and then turns a seated dinner into a floor. Here that is one person, not a DJ plus a hired host who met in the car park.

The music matters too, and it is harder than it looks, because a company party is the widest age range in any room we work. The answer is not a playlist. It is reading which half of the room is still standing at each point in the night.

What we can bring

Most of this is optional. The point of listing it is that you can have one supplier for the night instead of three, and that a room with nothing in it is not a problem you have to solve before you call us.

And the practical extras

Three shapes of night

The holiday party

Cocktails, dinner, a short thank-you from someone senior, then a floor. The common failure is going straight from a seated dinner to loud music and losing everyone. It is handled by building a bridge rather than flipping a switch.

The awards or installation night

Associations, unions, bar and medical societies, boards and chambers run these every year. Officers installed, awards read out, sometimes a presentation and a journal to acknowledge. This is mostly microphone work with a floor at the end, and it lives or dies on whether names are pronounced right and the running order holds. These sit across the winter and spring, not only in December.

The client or customer event

A launch, an open house, an anniversary, a sponsor night. Quieter, longer cocktail-hour feel, music under conversation rather than over it, and usually a short formal section in the middle.

Working with
your procurement

Corporate buyers ask for things a private client never does, and a vendor who cannot produce them loses the booking after the yes. Here is where we stand, plainly.

If your accounts payable process needs something not listed here, ask before you assume it is a problem.

Where these
actually happen

A hotel ballroom or catering hall. Usually there is house sound and a house contact. We work to the venue's rules, load in when they tell us to, and send a certificate of insurance naming them before the date.

A restaurant's private room. Tighter, lower ceilings, guests close to the speakers. Volume is the whole game here, and the system gets sized down rather than up.

Your own office, warehouse or showroom. This is the one people assume is difficult, and it is the case we are built for. There is no house sound, no screen, no stage and nobody to run them. We bring all of it. What we need from you first is where we are drawing power, what the walk-in looks like from the street to the room, and who is handling food and service on the day.

A marquee or an outdoor space. Same as above with weather and power as the two questions that decide everything.

What it costs

Quoted per event rather than sold off a shelf, because four things move the number and they move it a long way: how many hours you need covered, the size and shape of the room, how much sound and A/V the space needs supplied rather than already having, and how much production sits on top — lighting, screens, effects, photo, live musicians.

Give us the date, the venue or address, and a rough headcount, and you will get a written number rather than a range. If the date is close, say so when you call — December in this business books a long way out, and an honest answer about what is left is more use to you than a maybe.

Questions people ask

Can you run the awards and the speeches, not just the music?

Yes, and that is usually the part that matters most. The DJ and the MC are the same person here, so the run of the night sits with one person: the welcome, the awards, the installation of officers, the raffle, handing the microphone to a chief executive and getting it back. You give us the running order and we hold it.

We are having it in our own office. Is that a problem?

No, and it is the case we are built for. An office, a warehouse floor or a restaurant back room has no house sound, no screens and nobody running them. We bring the sound system, additional speakers for the far end of the room, a mixing board with an engineer, screens or an LED wall for the presentation, and a stage if you want people raised up. What we need from you before the date is where we are drawing power, what the walk-in looks like from the street, and who is running service.

Can you supply a certificate of insurance for our venue?

Yes. We carry general liability and can issue a certificate naming your venue as additional insured, on request. Tell us the venue’s exact wording requirement and the event dates and we will have it issued.

Do you take direction from our planner or our events team?

Yes. Where there is a planner or an internal events lead running the room, they own the running order and we work to it. The common fear about a DJ at a corporate event is somebody who hijacks the night. We take the timeline we are given.

What does a corporate party cost?

It is quoted per event rather than sold off a shelf, because the number moves on four things: how many hours you need covered, the size and shape of the room, how much sound and A/V the space needs supplied rather than already having, and whether you want production on top — lighting, screens, effects, a photo booth, live musicians. Give us the date, the venue and a rough headcount and you will get a written number.

We have already booked this year. Is it worth talking?

Probably, for two reasons. Most companies set the date and the vendor for next year a long way out, so an early conversation is the one that actually lands. And December is the busiest month of the year in this business, which means replacements happen — if your entertainment falls through in the week of the event, it helps to already have a number to call.

Do you work association and union dinners?

Yes. Installation nights, awards dinners and annual member dinners are the same job as a holiday party with more podium time: officers installed, awards read out, a presentation to run, and a floor afterwards. Those dates sit across the winter and spring rather than only in December.

How far do you travel?

We are based on Staten Island and work across New York and New Jersey. Give us the address and we will tell you straight whether it works.
