The Gramercy at Lakeside Manor in Hazlet is the venue we've performed at more than any other. Here's what we know about running a reception in that ballroom — and how we'd run yours.
We set up directly across from the entrance to the room. It's the position we've used at The Gramercy for years, and it does two things at once: your guests see the full setup the moment they walk in, and the sound reaches the whole floor evenly instead of favouring one end of a 4,000 square foot room.
That wall also gives us plenty of space for any size setup — a straightforward DJ and MC package, or the full production with intelligent lighting, video walls and cold spark fountains. We're not squeezing a large rig into a corner that can't hold it, which is the constraint that quietly limits what a lot of couples can do in other rooms.
And the room itself sounds excellent. Twenty-foot draped ceilings and a balcony can be difficult spaces, but The Gramercy's ballroom carries sound genuinely well — it's one of the better-sounding rooms we work in anywhere in the tri-state.
The staircase entrance is genuinely one of the best in New Jersey — a fun, unique way to come into your own reception, and very few venues in the area can offer anything like it. It's worth building your introduction around rather than treating as a detail.
Then something we notice at The Gramercy that isn't true of most rooms: the dance floor fills from every direction at once. In a lot of venues the floor builds out from one corner and you spend the night pulling the rest of the room in. Here it fills from all areas — a direct result of the setup position. Sound and light reach every table evenly, so nobody is sitting in a dead zone wondering whether the party has started without them.
Yes — it's the venue we've worked most across our eighteen years. We know the room, the staff, the load-in, and how the night runs there. It's genuinely one of our favourite rooms in New Jersey, and we tell couples booking it that it's one of the best decisions they could make.
Yes. Outdoor ceremony sound and indoor reception sound are genuinely different setups, and we bring both rather than stretching one system across the whole night.
Only if it's specified for the room. We scale intelligent lighting and uplighting to The Gramercy's actual ceiling height instead of running a standard package — and because our setup faces the entrance, the light and sound reach every table rather than favouring one end of the floor.
